Real Love Has Boundaries with Michaela Birdshaw (Copy)

We are cultured by society to believe that loving another means that true love has no boundaries. We are told that to love means to sacrifice. We are told that unconditional means a willingness to disappoint ourselves rather than potentially disappointing others. We are told that true love looks like 3 months salary and the 4C’s and a hell of a lot of compromise.

We have been told lies.

We can love unconditionally, AND we can have boundaries. We really can have it all!

In this workshop, we will:

- Unpack the lie of love: Romance versus Respect

- Reveal the truth about boundaries: Distance or Closeness?

- Become your own architect of boundaries.

Join us to bring more truth (and joy) to your life and your love! You are both worth it.

Pilates (Copy)

My approach to teaching Pilates is informed by my fascination with the infinite nuance found in movement of the human body, and the fact that I love holding space to explore movement together.

This Pilates-based Movement Class will incorporate Contemporary Pilates, Corrective Exercise, Hannah Somatics, Muscle Energy Techniques, and Myofascial Unwinding to support functional alignment and healthy movement patterns.  We will emphasize breath, body awareness, intention, freedom of movement, discovering new ideas, rediscovering old ones, and maybe most importantly, not taking ourselves too seriously.

My classes are a place where you can be you and I will support you in that process.

*We will use a large bath towel & theraband as props

Yoga with Shea

The research shows that yogic practices induce brain changes resulting in greater activation in left than right prefrontal cortex (Davidson et al., 2003). Some studies have demonstrated that yoga based exercises are responsible for formation of neuropathways (Kreiman, Koch, & Fried, 2000).

In their study, Lazar et al. (2005) and Lazar (2006) have found that yogic practices affect resonance circuitry which increases thickness in medial prefrontal cortex and insula, especially right side resulting in empathy, interoception and attunement to self and others, logical and intuitive processing (Kreiman, Koch & Fried, 2000).

These practices also lead to decreased vulnerability to stress in healthy exercising adults (Baldwin, 1999). In their study on 113 psychiatric patients, Lavey et al. (2005) have found that yogic practices help regulate mood. In another study, these practices have been found to benefit emotionally distressed women (Michaelson et al., 2005).
